On 4th February 2020, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria presented the Nigeria Visa Policy (NVP) 2020 which replaces the Nigeria Visa Policy 2012. According to the Federal Government, the NVP 2020 is targeted at supporting the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (2017-2020), boosting tourism and expanding business opportunities in the country.
The NVP 2020 introduced 79 classes of visa which fall under three new visa categories, namely;
- short visit visa (28 classes)
- temporary residence visa (36 classes) and
- permanent residence visa (15 classes)
The NVP 2020 is projected to have made room for all conceivable reasons to visit Nigeria.
The NVP 2020 also identifies three visa application channels; a visa on arrival, an electronic visa (e-visa) and a visa issued at the embassy. It provides for automation of the Temporary Wok permit (TWP) application process, a visa code for each of the 79 visa classes, and introduces special visas for Nigerians by birth with dual citizenships to enable them visit Nigeria with the passport of other countries.
The NVP 2020 is to be implemented by the Nigerian Immigration Service under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Interior. Please follow this link to view the NVP 2020 for more information.
