The Energy Sustainability Conference 2018 held on 11th of October at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos (Nigeria). It featured panel discussions and specialist sessions on the various segments of the Nigerian energy sector.
Mr Soji Awogbade, a founding partner in the firm of ǼLEX which has a major energy practice, chaired two sessions namely; ‘Energy Policy & Security – Demand and Supply Outlook for Nigeria’ involving Engr.
Dada Thomas (President, Nigerian Gas Association) and Mr Demola Adeyemi-Bero (MD/CEO First E&P) and ‘The Convergence, Bringing it all together’ (Closing session) involving Mr Felix Ekundayo (MD, Asiko Energy), Mr Lanre Babalola (Former Minster of Power) and Mrs Audrey Joe-Ezigbo (ED/ CO-Founder, Falcon Corporation).
The sessions examined the various issues affecting the Nigerian Energy sector as well as the policy challenges in relation to effective implementation.
Mr ‘Soji Awogbade highlighted the provisions and milestones of some policies in Oil & Gas and Power sectors like;
The National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan 2015 (NIIMP)
The Economic Recovery & Growth Plan (ERGP) (2017 – 2020)
In addressing the key topic of the first session, Mr Awogbade stated that ‘Legal instruments alone are not sufficient to address the issues in the energy sector’ and ‘Government must be ready to take up the gauntlet, and frontally address the issues bedevilling the sector.’
The Energy Sustainability Conference ended with a dinner where Mr Soji Awogbade and some other members were made Fellows of the Energy Institute (FEI).
